FOR 150 YEARS, THE EXCEPTIONAL OBJECTS OF S.T. DUPONT HAVE BROUGHT TOGETHER FRENCH EXPERTISE AND ART OF LIVING TO ACCOMPANY GREAT MOMENTS OF LIFE.
At the end of the 19th century, Maison founder Simon Tissot Dupont decoded the desires of the new globetrotting elite. He set about fulfilling the demands of the greats of this society, crafting luxurious multi-compartment travel cases for figures like Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie.
S.T. Dupont became synonymous with the Art of offering and passing along.
For the great pleasure-seekers of every period since 1872—from Queen Elizabeth II to Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Alfred Hitchcock, Marylin Monroe, Leonardo di Caprio and many more—owning a Dupont has meant displaying a personal object, tailor-made and specially crafted by a great master artisan to fulfil the client’s every desire.
To this day, S.T. Dupont strives to meet its clients’ ever-exacting desires, always masterfully combining craftsmanship with innovation. S.T. Dupont designed the first luxury, solid gold petrol lighter. The Dupont lighter went on to become a style icon of the 20th century with its iconic and famous “Cling” sound. This distinctive artistic craftsmanship of S.T. Dupont has been continually enriched with the most refined rarities in the world, such as Chinese lacquer, precious metals, and finest leathers.
The Maison knows how to adapt to the times through myriad of creative and innovative concepts: being the leader of the most exquisite lighters in the world, creating the only lighter using the twin flame on the Grand S.T. Dupont or the amusing sophistication of the Casino complication lighter.
Located in the heart of the French Alps, S.T. Dupont Manufacture’s Art also expresses itself on Writing Instruments. The Art of Writing was born from Jackie Kennedy request, who wanted a beautiful, yet simple and elegant writing instrument that would match her Ligne 1 lighter. Strong with its 150 years of excellence, the Maison is bringing back to life its art of travel through modern and fresh Leather Goods collections.
THE ALLIANCE OF TWO FRENCH LEGENDS: S.T. DUPONT COMPETES IN THE 24 HOURS OF LE MANS COLOURS
It is the 2023 marriage of the year. The union of two legendary French brands with unique know-how. Each of them in its own field holds aloft the banner of French excellence. On the occasion of the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023, the famous endurance car race and S.T. Dupont, which celebrated 150 years of existence in 2022, are coming together to create a rich, modern, innovative collection.
This unprecedented collaboration resolutely looks forward to the future to echo this year’s slogan for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, “Anticipate the future”. It responds to the yearning of a new, younger, female audience for cars and luxury. With firmly rooted common values: avant-gardism, sharing, team spirit, passion and longevity, all of which engender emotion.
For S.T. Dupont this historic alliance can be likened to a return to our roots. Originally, Simon Tissot-Dupont, the creator of the brand, began his adventure as an entrepreneur by founding a car body company, which was destroyed in a fire. He then purchased a workshop for the manufacture of briefcases, which he developed with the help of his two sons. At the end of the 1920s the sons decided to focus the business on manufacturing luxury products, in particular travelling cases.
For more than a century the 24 Hours of Le Mans has offered another type of travel, at full throttle, in the automotive industry. Some of the major innovations in the industry (fog lights, disk brakes, road markings and hybrid drive units, etc.) tested on the Le Mans circuit or during the race almost always end up by equipping the car of the man in the street.
This partnership also intertwines the destiny of these two brands with that of individual racing drivers, celebrities or anonymous persons, who once drove on the 13.6 kilometres of the Le Mans circuit or experienced the refinement of an item from S.T. Dupont. When legend and elegance come together.
A remarkable collection for an historic event. For the occasion S.T. Dupont and the 24 Hours of Le Mans have designed four different ranges, including a special range of leather goods. They are, of course, inspired by the world of cars and car racing.
Although in the past S.T. Dupont has already explored territories associated with travel and transport, this is the first time that this French luxury emblem has produced a Limited Edition on the theme of the car. With the 24 Hours of Le Mans the brand turns a new page, full of promise, shared riches and innovation. When two centenaries appear on the horizon, their marriage cannot be anything but a success.
