A Masterpiece in Aluminium: 1923 Rolls-Royce 20HP Confirmed for 2026
Concours of Elegance is excited to announce the appearance of a truly exceptional 1923 Rolls-Royce 20HP, chassis 66H9, one of the earliest examples of the model and a remarkably original survivor from the dawn of Rolls-Royce motoring.
What makes this car especially fascinating is its coachwork. Ordered new with polished aluminium bodywork by Barker & Co. of London, the 20HP has remained unpainted throughout its life. Such a specification was highly unusual even in period, requiring an exceptional standard of craftsmanship and finish. More than a century later, the gleaming aluminium body remains one of the car’s defining features.
Built between March and July 1923, 66H9 is also notable for retaining a number of rare early Rolls-Royce details, including an unusual rounded-edge radiator that was quickly superseded, a Silver Ghost-specification Watford magneto, and a wing-mounted Boa-Constrictor horn.
Equally impressive is the car’s originality. Preserved rather than restored, it retains many of its factory-fitted features, including original floors, floor coverings and body details, offering a rare glimpse into how a Rolls-Royce of this era would have appeared over a century ago.
Having travelled extensively throughout Europe and earned accolades including First in the Pre-War Conservation Class at the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club Annual Rally in 2024, this extraordinary motor car will now take its place among the world’s finest automobiles at Concours of Elegance 2026.
A rare example of early Rolls-Royce engineering and craftsmanship, 66H9 stands as a testament to the beauty of preservation, originality and timeless design.
