Rare Maserati 3500 GT Confirmed for Hampton Court Palace

One of the earliest surviving right-hand-drive Maserati 3500 GTs has been confirmed for the 2026 Concours of Elegance, with the beautifully restored grand tourer set to appear at Hampton Court Palace.

Introduced at the 1957 Geneva Motor Show, the Maserati 3500 GT marked a pivotal moment in the marque’s history. As financial pressures forced Maserati to step away from frontline motorsport, the elegant 2+2 became the company’s first true production model, securing its future by translating race-bred engineering into a refined road car. Designed by legendary engineer Giulio Alfieri, the 3500 GT combined a tubular chassis with a six-cylinder engine derived from Maserati’s celebrated 350S sports racer.

While more than 2,200 examples of the 3500 GT were produced in various forms, Touring of Milan’s Superleggera-bodied coupé is widely regarded as the definitive design. Chassis AM101.740 is particularly significant as the oldest known surviving factory-built right-hand-drive Touring coupé. Believed to be one of just 12 examples completed in this configuration, it was finished in March 1960 before being delivered to Maserati’s UK concessionaire and first registered the following month.

Having spent much of its life as part of a private collection and covering remarkably few miles over several decades, the Maserati was acquired in 2016 before undergoing an exhaustive restoration at renowned Maserati specialists Barkaways.

The restoration, which began in 2022, was approached with an uncompromising focus on authenticity. Every stage of the project was carefully researched to ensure the finished car remained true to its original specification, resulting in what is now one of the finest surviving examples of this landmark Maserati.

The Maserati 3500 GT will join the 80-car Concours of Elegance display at Hampton Court Palace from Friday 4th to Sunday 6th September, where it will sit alongside many of the world’s rarest and most historically significant collector cars.
