RM Sotheby’s London Sale: Preview

1995 Porsche 993 911 GT2

Last year’s London auction, held at Battersea Park, was RM Sotheby’s 10th anniversary sale and it didn’t disappoint. Breaking four world records for Porsches sold at auction, all from the same single-owner collection, and generating more than £21.6m million in sales, it was a night to remember.

One star car that gained serious exposure and wowed enthusiasts all over the world, was a 1995 Porsche ‘993’-generation 911 GT2. The example, which was part of a one-owner Porsche Collection, broke all pre-sale estimates and was sold for £1,848,000 – a world record for a 911 GT2 sold at public auction – some £1 million over the previous milestone. Three other Porsches from the collection, a 1993 911 Turbo S Lightweight, 1993 911 Carrera RS and a 1995 Carrera RS Clubsport also entered the record books.

With appreciation and excitement for these air-cooled 993-shape GT2s showing no sign of slowing, RM Sotheby’s is delighted to announce that it will offer a low-mileage 1996 Porsche ‘993’-generation 911 GT2 at September’s London auction.

The sale, which will return to Battersea Park on 6th September will see this left-hand-drive example cross the block. Delivered new to Germany, it has covered just over 18,000km since then and now resides in the UK. Offered with a pre-sale estimate of £675,000 – £750,000, and in a stealthy unmolested specification of black over black, it’s expected that this special car will have significant interest ahead of September’s sale.

With just 57 homologated cars ever made, this represents a rare opportunity for a 993 GT2 to be sold at public auction, and with a significantly lower estimate than the car sold last year, an interesting ownership prospect, too.
