One of Just Six Surviving Siata 208 CS Balbo Berlinettas to Star at Concours of Elegance
The 2026 Concours of Elegance line-up continues to grow with the addition of one of the rarest examples of Italian post-war sports car design: the 1953 Siata 208 CS Balbo Berlinetta.
Created by Società Italiana Auto Trasformazioni Accessori (SIATA), the Siata 208 CS was the result of decades of engineering expertise from the Ambrosini family. Founded in 1926 by Giorgio Ambrosini, Siata initially specialised in performance modifications for Fiat models, developing advanced upgrades including overhead-valve conversions, multi-speed gearboxes, superchargers and multi-carburettor systems for Italy’s competitive motorists.
Following the Second World War, Siata’s close relationship with Fiat led to the development of the remarkable Fiat 8V project. Introduced at the 1952 Geneva Salon, the Fiat 8V stunned the motoring world with its advanced engineering, including a sophisticated V8 engine, tubular chassis and fully independent suspension. The Siata 208 CS was later created using surplus Fiat 8V engines, combining this exceptional mechanical package with elegant bespoke coachwork.
Among the most striking interpretations of the 208 CS was the Balbo Berlinetta, designed by Turin-based coachbuilder Balbo. With just nine examples produced and only six known to survive, these cars represent some of the most exclusive creations of Italy’s celebrated post-war etceterini era.
The example heading to Concours of Elegance, chassis CS072, was first registered in August 1953 and has since enjoyed a fascinating history across Europe and the United States. After passing through several notable collections, the car underwent a comprehensive restoration before returning to the road in its original period-correct specification.
With its advanced chassis, remarkable performance and exceptionally rare Balbo coachwork, the Siata 208 CS Balbo Berlinetta is a fitting addition to the 2026 Concours of Elegance, celebrating the innovation, craftsmanship and individuality that define Italy’s greatest automotive creations.
